A little thought on the always rewarding subject - love.
Love is in itself not to be shared, but only to be given in fullness. Love is to be distributed, but not in small portions. To love the rules of arithmetic do not apply. Where a cake, divided among my children, means 1/4 portion for all of them, I may give them all my undivided giving love. Love in measured portions ís not love at all, but a false sense of charity to appease one's own conscience. It is self-interest and therefore self-love. It is Narcissus, in love with his own reflection. And it is this yearning to be loved itself that is pathological.
Earthly love is not perfect. It is a derivative of true love. Agape, the divine unconditional love. All other kinds of love, storge, eros, philia and caritas, derive from this. God ís love (not reversed). It is captured in the image of perfect synergy of a triune God.
God's love is therefore perfect and overwhelming. Not divided among his creatures, but for each in fullness receive.
His reaching out to us not a half-hearted attempt, but a total surrender. His love "till death do us part," and beyond.
